Transport of hazardous materials
Hazardous materials are those that may harm people’s health, trigger environment contamination or cause material damage and those that have perilous effects to people’s health and environment. Because of that they are regulated by laws, other regulations and international contracts. Based on their capacity, attributes and conditions, those related to the transport may be dangerous for security or those that have proven toxic, corrosive, engendering, flammable, explosive or radioactive consequences.
Transport of hazardous materials is regulated by Hazardous Materials Transportation Act and by RID/ Regulations concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Rail.
For every hazardous material shipment and item listed under RID, the sender is required to provide special instructions and a manual for special technical, protective safety measures that must be taken while handling the shipment. Besides these, the sender is also required to provide specific transportation approval issued by the lawfully assigned hazardous material transportation organ for explosive materials, radioactive and toxic materials, which are accepted for transport only if the conditions prescribed by the RID are met.
Montecargo transports hazardous materials in accordance with regulations that regulate this field and the freight of hazardous materials and items prescribed by RID is calculated in accordance with the principle for calculating the freights in the Railway Tarrif for the transport of goods Spt 36b.
For every transport of hazardous materials, Montecargo and Railway Infrastructure of Montenegro define the scope and specifications of the transport.
Classes of dangerous goods according to RID are as follows:
- Class 1 Explosive substances and articles;
- Class 2 Gases;
- Class 3 Flammable liquids;
- Class 4.1 Flammable solids, self-reactive substances and solid desentisized explosives;
- Class 4.2 Substances liable to spontaneous combustion;
- Class 4.3 Substances which in contact with water emit flammable gases;
- Class 5.1 Oxidizing substances;
- Class 5.2 Organic peroxides;
- Class 6.1 Toxic substances;
- Class 6.2 Infectious substances;
- Class 7 Radioactive material;
- Class 8 Corrosive substances;
- Class 9 Miscellaneous dangerous substances and articles;
